BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jason Simpson joins the WVTM 13 News team as a meteorologist, the station announced Friday. Simpson will appear on WVTM 13 News weekday evenings at 6 and 10.
“We are excited about the opportunity to bring home a seasoned meteorologist who has been part of some of the most historic severe weather coverage in Alabama in decades. Jason’s knowledge of our community and storm tracking experience make him a perfect addition to our team of meteorologists,” said WVTM 13 President and General Manager Susana Schuler. “We are thrilled to welcome Jason, his wife Lacey and their family back home.”
Simpson was most recently a principal scientist for Dynetics, Inc. in Huntsville, where he tested and analyzed radar systems. Prior to Dynetics, Simpson was the chief meteorologist at WHNT-19, the CBS affiliate in Huntsville, for more than a decade. Simpson has also worked as a meteorologist at WBMA, the ABC affiliate in Birmingham, in addition to stations in Meridian, Mississippi and Columbia, Missouri.
“I’m eager to get back to the business of serving central Alabama with the WVTM 13 team,” said Simpson. “This group makes up the best of the best in local news, and I feel especially honored to work alongside a man I have admired for years in Jerry Tracey. My wife and I started our family in the Birmingham area over a decade ago. We eagerly anticipate coming back home, catching up with old friends, making new friends and serving however and wherever we can in this community.”
