CULLMAN, Ala. – Local artisan shop Leldon’s will host the second annual Art in the Warehouse District showcase Friday, July 22 from 4-8 p.m.

Artists will be on hand to show off their work, and food and drinks will be served. Attendees can peruse the store, mingle with the artists and purchase artwork on display. Part of the event’s proceeds will benefit the United Way of Cullman County.

Owner Leldon Maxcy said he is excited to host the event.

“We had our first one in February and it was a success, so it was time to do it again,” Maxcy said. “It’s local artists that make the store special. I feel like it’s a great event that pulls a lot of the local artists together to show their work so customers and attendees can meet the artists and find out their story, along with the story behind the art. I feel like the artist can tell them more about the piece, especially if it’s something here at the store.

“This one is a little different than the other one because we’re benefiting the United Way. The proceeds will go to them and the Stuff the Bus campaign that helps give school supplies to all the local kids. It’s nice to bring the artists together for a place to meet their customers and to benefit a local charity as well.”

Making its debut at the event will be local artist Ben Johnson South’s latest brainchild, his LAFF EVRY DAY collection. The collection is part of South’s larger campaign to benefit Alzheimer’s research and caregiver support (www.WeAreHRC.org).

Austin Archer and Ace Hamilton, both Cullman High School students, have written an original song, “Laff Evry Day,” to accompany the campaign. The song will premiere at the show, along with a specially curated music mix titled “Summer Smiles.”

Other artists participating in the showcase include Kay White (acrylic pours), Laura Walker (funny animals and more), Karen Messersmith (mixed media), Lynda Goldstein (abstract), Katie Elise (farmhouse/Southern), Emily Bussman (Sips n Strokes), Payge Semmes (lake scenes and landscapes) and Laurie Johnson (from Birmingham).

The event will also serve as the opening of Leldon’s bigger retail space at 117 First Ave. NE.
