The State of Alabama owns 4,221 buildings. The appraised value of these buildings, including contents, is $36,079,850. This property is insured for $27,777,245, against loss by fire. The state itself is carrying $18,566,815 of this insurance and the balance is reinsured in old line companies. The state also carries tornado insurance on this property, to the amount of $26,942,690. The total fire losses paid last year were $227,863.74 and the total tornado losses amounted to $8,833.61.
The average number of people residing in Alabama per square mile is 51. Contrast this with Rhode Island, which has 551, Massachusetts 515, Connecticut 323, New York 265 and Ohio with 162.

On August 29, 1872, Mr. Nick Ruehl and Miss Katherine Stahmm were married in Cincinnati, Ohio. About 18 months later they moved to Cullman County. They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Their son, Henry is a blacksmith. Charles was also a blacksmith and wagon maker until his death in 1924. John is a blacksmith and farmer. Casper is an outstanding farmer. Their daughters are Kate Koepeke, of Greenville, Minnie Speer, of Cullman and Minnie Yeager, of Cullman.
Sacred Heart Academy, a boarding and day school will open on September 7.
Leo Kilgo, of Logan will be attending Wood Junior College in Mississippi.
The enrollment at Fairview School is 325 this year.
Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Self, of Welcome, have a new daughter, as of August 24, whom they have named Wanda.
Quite a large crowd, from Vinemont, attended the baptizing on Sunday at the John R. Holmes fish pond.
