HANCEVILLE, Ala. – UPDATE: The apartment fire in Hanceville has resulted in a fatality this afternoon. According to Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick, there was one confirmed fatality.
Gary Holmes, 67, of Hanceville was pronounced dead at the scene.
This incident is currently under investigation.

The fire is currently extinguished due to the response of the Hanceville Fire Department and Johnson’s Crossing Fire Department. The apartment building is thought to be in the Autumnwood Apartments on College Drive, according to Hanceville Mayor Kenneth Nail.

Mayor Nail said of the tragedy, “My understanding is that we’ve had one fatality a short time ago. We had both Hanceville and Johnson’s Crossing respond to the call.
“The fire is out now and was pretty well contained to the one apartment. The fire is under investigation and we’re praying for everybody involved.”

We will provide an update as more information is released.
