HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Regional stage of the basketball postseason is upon us, and we have four local squads still in the hunt for a trip to Birmingham. Both the Lady Raiders of Good Hope and the Addison Lady Bulldogs are alive in the 4A and 2A girls’ brackets and on the boys’ side, the Cullman Bearcats will continue their run through 6A, and the Meek Tigers will hit the court for a 1A Regional battle. All four teams will head to Wallace State for this year’s Northwest Regional Tournament and a pair of them will tip things off Friday. Cullman and Addison will be on the court at Tom Drake Coliseum Friday, the Lady Raiders will be in action Saturday and Meek will hit the floor Monday.

6A NW Regional Semifinals

Cullman (25-3) v. Hazel Green (19-13) – Friday 1:30 p.m.

So far this basketball season has been one to remember at Cullman. Head Coach Stu Stuedeman has helped lead the ‘Cats to a 25-3 record in his first year and collected the first area championship for the black & gold since 2016. Now, the Bearcats are headed to the Northwest Regional to play a massive game in some familiar territory. Cullman finished the season 13-0 on its home court and with Tom Drake Coliseum just a few minutes down the road, hopefully that home comfort will extend to Wallace State. Hazel Green’s record may not be as impressive as the Bearcats’ but the Trojans have won their last three games in dominant fashion so Cullman will have to kill their momentum when they meet Friday in order to advance to the Regional Finals.

4A NW Regional Semifinals

Good Hope (29-4) v. Rogers (17-11) – Saturday 3 p.m.

This season has been a fun one for the second-ranked Good Hope Lady Raiders. With a record of 29-4, they’ve been on the winning end of nearly all their games this season and they still have plans to win a few more. Good Hope dominated its area tournament and handled Haleyville in the Sub-Regional 69-33 to punch its ticket to the Northwest Regional. Now, the Lady Raiders will square off against Rogers with a spot in the Regional Finals on the line. The Lady Pirates have been up and down throughout the year but are coming off a big, 45-33 win over Brooks in the Sub-Regional so Good Hope can’t afford to look past them if they want to take the next step towards Birmingham.

2A NW Regional Semifinals

Addison (22-9) v. Hatton (15-10) – Friday 6 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs have been on quite a run the last few weeks. Addison knocked off No. 4 Decatur Heritage 58-56 at the end of January, defeated 4A Dora 60-53 at the start of February and posted impressive wins over Cold Springs and No. 5 Winston County to claim their area championship. Now, after a 47-35 win over Aliceville in the Sub-Regional round, the Lady Bulldogs are looking for even more hardware. The road to Birmingham will continue for Addison Friday with a Sweet 16 battle against Hatton and if the Lady Bulldogs continue to ride the momentum they’ve been building, they’ll have a chance to move on to the Elite 8.

1A NW Regional Semifinals

Meek (18-9) v. Covenant Christian (25-6) – Monday 10:30 a.m.

The Tigers have won four straight coming into their Regional matchup against Covenant Christian but they’ll certainly have their hands full with the Eagles. Covenant finished the season ranked fourth in Class 1A poll and has put together a stellar season up to this point. However, Meek will be looking to topple them at Tom Drake Coliseum Monday and secure a spot in the Northwest Regional Finals. The Tigers have been stout on the defensive end most of the year and it’ll take another great performance Monday to knock off the Eagles.
