HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Wallace State Occupational Therapy Assistant Program will be hosting their 2nd Annual mOTivAted Virtual 5K 2022 from Jan. 9 – 15.

An announcement from Wallace State OTA reads, “Did you make a New Year’s resolution to get fit and healthy? Did you know that one area that Occupational Therapy addresses is health and wellness? We are a holistic practice that focuses on prevention of disease as well as support/treatment and education for persons who are living with injury/illness. How better to address your personal wellness goals than to participate in a Virtual 5K to support your favorite OTA students and our community partners? It is easy to start your journey and to benefit us by signing up for our free virtual 5K event.”

Program Director Laura Smith shared, “Occupational Therapy helps people who have a disruption of their occupations (or things they do in their daily life), whether that is a mental or physical disruption. We help people either regain lost skills or adapt their lives to be able to participate in those occupations that are purposeful and meaningful to them. OTAs can work in a variety of areas from schools, hospitals, outpatient clinics to community mental health settings.”

“The run is virtual, so it is done wherever the runner chooses to run–they just time themselves and upload their results to the website. Our students come from all over the state as we are the only OTA program in Alabama, so it makes sense to have a virtual run versus an in-person run. It is free, but we ask for donations to support our OTA program, and our three community partners–Hope Horses, Flourish and The Link,” Director Smith continued.

Registration for the 2nd Annual mOTivAted Virtual 5K can be found at https://runsignup.com/Race/AL/Virtual/mOTivAtedWSCCVirtual5K. Donations may also be offered following the same link.
