CULLMAN, Ala. – A Cullman County Grand Jury on Tuesday indicted Christian Alexander Shane Lewter, 22, of Vinemont, with reckless murder in the August 2020 shooting death of Tazz Michael Wynn in the Battleground Community. The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office took Lewter into custody following the indictment.

Court records showed a Vinemont address for Lewter at the time of the shooting, but at the time of his arrest, he was living in Moulton.

According to the Code of Alabama, the grand jury can indict for reckless murder if “under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life, he or she recklessly engages in conduct which creates a grave risk of death to a person other than himself or herself, and thereby causes the death of another person.”

The grand jury indictment alleged that Lewter “did, on or about August 24, 2020, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life, he recklessly engages in conduct, to-wit: shooting Taz Michael Wynn in the chest three times, which creates a grave risk of death to a person other than himself, and thereby causes the death of another person.”

The court assigned Lewter a $50,000 cash bond at his first appearance. According to staff at the Cullman County Detention Center, he was still in custody Wednesday evening, but being held in a facility outside Cullman County.

Reckless murder is a class A felony; if convicted, Lewter could serve from 10 years to life.
