COLONY, Ala. – Colony Councilwoman Jasmine Cole, the youngest member of the council and in her first term, drew praise from members and attending residents alike at Tuesday’s Colony Town Council meeting for a successful community Easter egg hunt and activities at the community center last week. Cole assured all present that she is just getting started.

Of over $700 donated for the event, Cole reported that she had $249 left over, and turned the money over to Mayor Curtis Johnson to be held until needed for upcoming events, which will be coming soon.

Basketball tournament coming up

Colony will host a three-on-three basketball tournament Sunday, May 30, 2021, starting at 1:30 p.m. in the gym. Entry for persons age 17 and under will be $10, and $15 for persons age 18 and older.

Vendor booths will be available for $25. Cole said that she hopes to serve hot food items like fish, chicken, fries and coleslaw, and said that she will welcome donations of food items or money.

Following the announcement at Tuesday’s meeting, former Mayor Donnis Leeth made the first pledge of $100 to the event and said that he would contribute to future events. Cole warned him with a smile that she will be calling on him for a lot of events in the future.
