PREP SOFTBALL: Lady Raiders roll past Hanceville 16-1

GOOD HOPE, Ala. — The Good Hope Lady Raiders hosted Hanceville for an area game Tuesday night, looking to keep their playoff chances alive and after a huge first inning and a great pitching performance from Emma Bailey, Good Hope routed the Lady Bulldogs 16-1. 

Bailey struck out the side to start out the game for Good Hope and the Lady Raiders batted around in its opening at-bats. Lexi Steed reached on an error and later scored on a dropped third strike. Bailey Keef reached on a dropped third strike and later scored on a wild pitch and Rebekah Norris scored on another Hanceville error to make it 3-0. Good Hope collected eight more runs, all with two outs, as they went into the second inning up 11-0. 

The Lady Raiders added three more runs in the second inning on an Addyson Burgess RBI groundout and a Keef two-run double. The Lady Bulldogs scored in the top of the third on a throwing error, but Good Hope quickly ended the game in their half as Abby Philyaw hit an RBI double and Bailey hit an RBI single to put the final score at 16-1. Good Hope improves to 2-1 overall in the region.

Bailey went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs for the Lady Raiders. Keef added two hits and three RBIs. Philyaw collected a pair of hits and two RBIs. Burgess added a hit and two RBIs. Steed and Norris each collected RBIs in the game as well. Bailey didn’t allow a Hanceville hit through three innings, walked three and struck out four.  Good Hope will host Curry in another huge region game on Tuesday while Hanceville will look to rebound on the road at West End on Tuesday.

Fairview 4 – Vinemont 2 (Softball)

Fairview traveled to take on Vinemont and after being no-hit through almost four innings, the Lady Aggies rallied late to get a big win on the road over the Lady Eagles.

Vinemont pushed across the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Emilie Hoffman drew a leadoff walk and later scored on an Angela Harris RBI groundout. The Lady Eagles added another run in the fourth as Hoffman scored on a Fairview error. 

After finally collecting their first hit of the game in the top of the fourth, Fairview looked to get on the scoreboard two innings later. Devan Fulmer and Kaitlyn Benson each drew consecutive one-out walks and Emma Garcia reached on an infield single to load the bases. Back-to-back errors by Vinemont allowed Fulmer and Benson to score as the score was now tied up at two. The Lady Aggies wound up breaking the tie in the seventh as Kloie Watson hit an RBI groundout and Savannah Bryson scored on a passed ball and the Lady Eagles couldn’t push across any more runs after that as Fairview collected a 4-2 road win over Vinemont.

Watson finished with an RBI for Fairview. Garcia added two hits and Fulmer and Bryson each collected one. Emma Roberts and Adya Payne allowed a combined six hits, one earned run and walked four. For Vinemont, Harris finished with a hit and an RBI. McKenna Kline and Hoffman each added a pair of hits and Emma Dortch collected a hit in the contest. Lawrence went 5.1 innings as she allowed just two hits and two runs, none of them earned, walked six and struck out six. 

Fairview will host Guntersville in a huge area game on Tuesday while Vinemont will travel to Phil Campbell on Tuesday in a big area game.
