BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – This year’s AHSAA State Volleyball Tournament is upon us and there are four local teams in the mix this time around. Addison plowed its way through the Area and North Regional Tournaments to get back to familiar surroundings at the 2A State Tournament in Birmingham and the Meek Lady Tigers earned their spot after sweeping Holy Spirit Catholic in the opening round of the North Regional. West Point and Fairview will both be in the field as well after they clashed for their third title fight this season in the North Regional Finals. West Point won this year’s county title over the Lady Aggies while Fairview took the area tournament crown earlier this month. In their latest duel, the Lady Warriors finished on top and will make their first-ever state tournament appearance as the top seed. The Lady Aggies will be making their third consecutive appearance in Birmingham.
The top-seeded Addison Lady Bulldogs will be the first team to hit the floor at the Birmingham Crossplex Tuesday morning at 10 to face Horseshoe Bend in the elite eight round. A win would send Addison to the final four and a match against either Ariton or Spring Garden at 5 p.m. Meek will be next at 2 p.m. and the Lady Tigers will be matched up against Pleasant Home. A win would put the Lady Tigers in a semifinal match with either Donoho or Millry at 6:30.
West Point and Fairview will both play their first matches of the 5A Tournament at 3:30 p.m. The top-seeded Lady Warriors will play Elberta and the Lady Aggies will take on Providence Christian. Wins would propel both teams into final four matches at 6:30.
