Ethelene “Susie” Henslee passed away on the evening of Sept. 24, 2020.

Beloved by neighbors and cherished by family members, “Susie” is remembered for her kindness, generosity and love – which she showered upon family and friends. Blessed were those who called her “mother,” “Nana,” “Aunt Suz,” or friend. Recalled is her particular love of flowers and children. She joyfully invested time to play with her niece and nephews, her two children and her much-loved grandchildren.

Her absence is, perhaps, summarized by a neighbor who said of her passing, “There is sort of a hole in the place now.”

Susie was born Nov. 16, 1936, the daughter of Mamie Kugler Nix and William Joseph Nix.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leon Dwight Henslee and her brother Harold Emmitt (“Shorty”) Nix.

Susie is survived by her sister Lenora Alpharetta Tucker, her brother Joseph Jackson Nix, her daughter Susan Lynn Henslee, her son David Dwight Henslee, and her grandchildren Alexander Nix Walker, Nathaniel Jefferson Walker and Rachel Caroline Walker.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association.

Her family will receive friends at Moss Service Funeral Home Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020 from 5-7 p.m. A graveside service will be at Cullman City Cemetery Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020 at 2 p.m.
