PREP VOLLEYBALL: West Point sweeps tri-match at Hanceville

HANCEVILLE, Ala. – West Point and Holly Pond traveled to Lane Horton Gymnasium for a tri-match with the Hanceville Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Warriors collected a pair of wins over both squads. West Point is coming off a gold medal performance at the Foley Classic over the weekend and kept the momentum going tonight, sweeping Holly Pond with 25-9 and 25-14 wins and Hanceville with 25-4 and 25-10 victories. The Lady Broncos defeated the Lady Bulldogs in two sets, 25-12 and 25-9.

Holly Pond 2 – Hanceville 0 (25-12, 25-9)

Hanceville and Holly Pond squared off in the first match of the evening and the Lady Broncos swept the contest in a pair of sets. Holly Pond built an 8-4 lead early in the first set and stayed in front 11-7 as the match went on. A 7-1 run allowed the Lady Broncos to move in front 18-8 and they pulled away to take the first set 25-12.

Holly Pond jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second set and pulled ahead 14-5 midway through the set. The run continued for the Lady Broncos who moved in front 18-5 and they held on to win the set 25-9 and sweep the match with Hanceville.

West Point 2 – Holly Pond 0 (25-9, 25-14)

The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 4-1 lead early over Holly Pond and continued to add to their lead as the progressed, pulling ahead 11-3. The Lady Broncos were able to cut into the lead and make it 15-8 but West responded with a 6-0 run to move ahead 21-8 and held on to take the first set 25-9.

The second set was knotted at 2 early but the Lady Warriors used a 5-0 run to go up 7-2. Holly Pond answered with a run of its own to cut the lead to 9-7 but West Point found its rhythm again and moved ahead 19-12 late in the set. The Lady Warriors pulled ahead 25-14 to sweep the Lady Broncos.

West Point 2 – Hanceville 0 (25-4, 25-10)

West Point held a slim, 3-2 lead early in the first set against Hanceville but tore off an 8-1 run to take an 11-3 lead. The Lady Warriors pulled ahead 15-4 before ending the set on a 10-0 run to win it 25-4 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 4-1 lead to get the second set started but West Point was able to bounce back quickly and tie the set at 4. The Lady Warriors pulled ahead 8-4 before stretching their lead to 13-6 midway through the set. West Point wrapped up the second set with a 25-10 win to sweep the match over Hanceville.

West Point will travel to West Mogran Thursday, Hanceville will head to Holly Pond next Thursday and the Lady Broncos will face Cold Springs on the road Thursday.
