Susan Laird Wood, 67, of Double Springs, AL passed away in Birmingham Friday, July 10, 2020 at 11:05 a.m., after contracting the COVID-19 virus.

Susan was the youngest of three children born to Stanley and Jane Laird. After high school in Fairfax County, VA she attended nursing school there before moving to Alabama. She got her undergraduate degree in Florence and earned her Master’s in Social Work at The University of Alabama. She worked for the Alabama state government in Dothan as a social worker before moving back to Double Springs.

Sue had many interests and she always seemed to find pleasure in whatever she was doing. She was an avid Alabama fan proudly sporting “Roll Tide” shirts on game day. She had a free spirit and did not get mired down with worry. She grew up in the 60s and 70s when life was simple and sweet. She was also an accomplished piano player and knew many songs by heart. Sue enjoyed searching thrift stores and garage sales for inventory for her “Odds n’ Ends” store in Double Springs and her online eBay store. She was an observer of nature and liked watching the birds outside her window. Asked to teach a Bible study course, she was honored to have had that experience. She was generous to people who did not always appreciate her, but she changed lives with her unsung generosity.

Susan’s friends and family will miss her greatly.

Susan is survived by her two sisters Linda (Doug) Sandford of Crossville, TN and Wanda (Steve) Teel of Leesburg, VA. She is also survived by nephews Jamie (Blair) Sandford and children and Stephen (Bo) Teel III; and niece, Shannon Teel (Derek Tomlinson) and children. She is also survived by her former husband and friend Terry Wood of Silver Hill, AL.

Susan will be buried in Fairview Cemetery. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, a tribute in her honor will be held at a later time.
