CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism (CPRST) is asking residents to “chalk up your best positive design” in an effort to #PaintCullmanPositive. This fun contest will be ongoing during social distancing orders.
Jasef Wisener, marketing coordinator for CPRST, explained, “The rules are super simple. All we want people to do is to get some sidewalk chalk and spread some positive messages around Cullman. Do that and take a picture of it. They can post it on our Facebook page. They can tag us on Instagram. Really, just get that photo to us in some way and they will be entered into the contest. We’ve had some awesome entries so far!”
Wisener said he had already seen that sidewalk chalk art had become a favorite activity during the pandemic and that’s where the idea came from for the contest.
He said, “We figured this was a great way of getting people to do what they were already doing while sort of focusing it onto spreading those positive messages.”
With rain consistently in the forecast, Wisener recommended taking and sending the photos immediately.
“It’s been raining so much,” he said, “that if you don’t do it right then, the drawing might be gone the next day.”
Local artist Emily Bussman created a beautiful chalk drawing at Depot Park to help launch the #PaintCullmanPositive campaign. Residents can see her artwork and contest entries on the CPRST Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cullmanparksrec.
According to Wisner, “We don’t have an exact end date for it right now. We are going to kind of base that on restrictions being lifted. Over time, we will figure out that end and when we will do winners.”
The top three artists will have their creations featured on digital billboards and CPRST social media channels. All other entrants will be entered into a drawing for gift cards from local businesses.
