CULLMAN, Ala. – Poodle skirts, root beer floats and rock & roll took over Westminster Assisted Living for Valentine’s Day Friday afternoon. The guys and gals let loose for a good old-fashioned sock hop, complete with a DJ spinning some classic tunes. The Valentine’s Day King, Queen and Princess were also crowned.

The residents danced and enjoyed floats and games while listening to their favorite songs, including “Yakkity Yak,” “Splish Splash,” “YMCA” and “Sweet Caroline.” They showed they still had some fancy dance moves.

This year’s Valentine’s Day King is Louis Price and his Queen is Martha Ashbaugh. Carol Henshaw was crowned Valentine’s Day Princess. The trio posed for pictures in front of the giant balloon jukebox while celebrating with their friends and staff.

Refuge Church Next Generation Pastor Richie Thompson volunteered his time and DJ skills

“God has blessed me that I have this equipment where I can go around and use it to give love,” he said. “This has been a lot of fun and what a great group here at Westminster.”
