HANCEVILLE, Ala. – It will soon look a lot more like Christmas in the city of Hanceville. The city council gave the go-ahead for the Hanceville Civitan Club to begin preparing for the third annual Tinsel Trail and Tree Lighting. It also approved plans for the 30th annual Cullman County Christmas Parade.

Hanceville Civitan Club’s Brenda Carter announced that the tree lighting is set for Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. at Veterans Park.

As for the Tinsel Trail, Carter said, “People sponsor their own trees. It is $25 for a 10 X 10 spot. They get electricity and we actually have families that set up a family spot there.”

Those interested in participating in the Tinsel Trail can contact Hanceville City Hall at 256-352-9830 or visit the Hanceville Civitan Club Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Hanceville-Civitan-Club-376680042829614.

All money will benefit the Civitan’s scholarship fund that awards Hanceville students scholarships to Wallace State Community College.

The Cullman County Christmas Parade is set for noon on Dec. 7.

“We are celebrating our 200 Bicentennial of Alabama,” said Carter. “Our theme is ‘God has Blessed Alabama for 200 Years.’”

Alabama Sec. of State John Merrill will serve as the grand marshal for this year’s parade.

Those interested in entering the Christmas parade can contact Hanceville City Hall for an application. The parade will travel from the campus of Wallace State to Hanceville Fire Station No. 1.

In other business, the city council spent most of its Thursday night work session discussing its application for a Rebuild Alabama Grant for $250,000. The council approved applying for the money to mill and repave Commercial Street from U.S. Highway 31 to the bridge at the civic center. The estimated match would be $21,381.

The next council meeting will be Nov. 21, 2019 at 6 p.m.
