HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Multiple departments responded to a fire at the Louisiana-Pacific Corporation plant just south of Hanceville Saturday afternoon. Hanceville Mayor Kenneth Nail and Hanceville Fire Chief Roger Green both confirmed all employees were accounted for. Green said there were no injuries.

Firefighters from Hanceville, Johnson’s Crossing and Garden City were first called to battle the blaze. Cullman EMS was on-hand as well.

The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m.

“It was in the press area where they had the jam up or some kind of failure during the process that they do,” said Green. “Something jammed up and caused the fire. Initial reports that there was an explosion with three people missing were false. There were no injuries and everyone was accounted for.”

The fire was extinguished early Saturday evening.

Green said he thinks the plant might be shut down for a couple of weeks.

“The whole facility will probably be shut down for a couple of weeks,” he said. “There’s pretty extensive damage to the heat press area.”

Louisiana-Pacific does have a small fire department, but Green said the blaze was too big for its resources.

“They’ve got a small brigade there,” he said. “They couldn’t contain it. It was more than they could handle with their small brigade.”
