Two more local squads punched their tickets to regional tournaments tonight and the Lady Warriors of West Point did it by winning the 5A Area 14 title. West Point defeated Arab 13-3 and topped Brewer twice to win the area crown Thursday while the Cullman Lady Bearcats split a pair of matchups with Decatur and Hartselle to finish as runners-up at the 6A Area 14 tournament.

West Point 11 – Brewer 8 (Area Championship Game)

West Point took on Brewer in a rematch Thursday night, this time, for the Class 5A, Area 14 championship. The Lady Warriors struck first in their opening at-bats on a sacrifice fly by Wilkins. They made it 2-0 in the second as Abbott scored on a Lady Patriot error and Braelee Quinn’s solo home run in the third made it 3-0. Brewer hit a home run of their own to make it a 3-1 game in the top of the fourth.

Carlie Wilkins and Sydney Sellers each hit two-run singles in the bottom of the fourth to increase West Point’s lead to 7-1. Brewer made it 7-2 in the fifth on an RBI double, and they took an 8-7 lead on four West Point errors and a bases-loaded walk in the sixth. The Lady Warriors tied it up at eight in their half of the inning on a Sellers RBI double and they made it 11-8 on an Abbott two-run double and a Wilkins RBI single. Wilkins worked around a one-out error and a walk in the top of the seventh to get the final two outs of the game as West Point clinched the area title with an 11-8 win.

They pulled away in the next half-inning on RBI singles by Abbott, Molly Pendley, Brown, and Shadix, a sacrifice fly by Thompson, and an RBI single by Quinn. Shadix added another RBI single in the fifth to put the final score at 13-3.
