PREP SOFTBALL: Lady Raiders blast Ashville 10-0, Thursday night scoring wrap-up

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Ashville traveled to Good Hope on Thursday to take on the Lady Raiders in a huge area matchup and they were sent home with a 10-0 loss.

Good Hope put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the second when Rebecca Norris drew a walk and Kailee Shikle reached on a dropped third strike to put runners on second and third. Morgan Goodwin hit an RBI single to right field to put the Lady Raiders on the scoreboard and added another run in the bottom of the third when Bailey Swann drew a leadoff walk and later scored on an RBI bunt single by Angelina Flanigan. 

Good Hope made it 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI fielder's choice by Shikle and then they broke it open in the sixth. Back-to-back singles from Jacqueline Hays and Skylar Tucker to lead off the inning set things up for Swann, who hit a three-run home run over the center field fence. RBI doubles from Norris and Shikle and a two-run triple by Hays later on in the inning put the final score at 10-0 and Good Hope is now 7-0 at home, having scored 10 or more runs during each game of their five-game winning streak.

Swann finished with the home run and she scored two runs for the Lady Raiders. Hays had a huge game as she finished with four hits, two RBIs, and she scored a run. Shikle added a hit, two RBIs, and she scored a run. Flanigan ended up with three hits, an RBI, and she scored two runs. Goodwin added a pair of hits, an RBI, and she scored a run, and Norris finished with a pair of hits, an RBI, and she scored a pair of runs. Sidnie English pitched an amazing game, allowing just two hits and she struck out six while throwing just 66 pitches, 44 for strikes. Good Hope (14-3) will participate in this year’s Gulf Coast Classic Tournament starting on Monday. 

Other Thursday night scores:

Cullman 8 – Southside 5 

Cullman led for most of their game against Southside, holding a 5-3 lead after four, but Southside tied the game up at five in the top of the sixth. The Lady Bearcats needed some late-game heroics in the bottom of the seventh. Two singles set things up for Alex Stansell, who ended the game with a three-run homer that lifted Cullman to an 8-5 victory. Stansell finished the game with two hits, four RBIs and scored a run. Brandy Peoples added a pair of hits, three RBIs and scored a run while Taylor Au ended up with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.

Oneonta 15 – Fairview 8 

Oneonta jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead over Fairview, but the Lady Aggies put up seven runs in the third and fourth inning to move in front 8-6. They couldn't quite hold on to the lead as the Lady Redskins pulled away at the end, putting up nine runs in the fifth and sixth inning to take the game 15-8.

Anna Scott finished the game with three RBIs, and she scored twice for Fairview. Olivia Overton added a pair of RBIs, while Tess Bailey ended up with a hit and a pair of RBIs.

Glencoe 4 – Hanceville 2 

Hanceville held a 2-1 lead after one after Cassidy Campbell hit an RBI double and Destiny Short scored on a passed ball, but Glencoe put up three runs in the sixth to take the lead and the Lady Bulldogs couldn't get a rally going. Glencoe held on to win it 4-2. Campbell finished the game with a hit and an RBI for Hanceville while Short added a hit and scored a run. 

Guntersville 7 – West Point 6

A two-run home run by Makayla Brown first put West Point on the scoreboard and then a two-run double by Carlie Wilkins, followed by a Brown two-run single in the fourth inning, stretched the Lady Warrior lead to 6-2. However, they couldn't hold it as Guntersville put up two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take the lead and West Point wound up falling 7-6.

Brown finished three-for-three with four RBIs and she scored a run for West Point. Wilkins added three hits and a pair of RBIs. Lexi Shadix and Bethany Minck (one run scored) each ended up with two hits, while Gracie Abbott and Molly Pendley each finished with a hit and a run scored.
