BAILEYTON – The Town of Baileyton is ready to move forward with the construction its new town hall. Walker Brothers, Ltd. entered a bid of $310,000 at December’s council meeting. The bid was well over the $265,000 budgeted for the construction, so the council voted at the time to table it until Monday night’s meeting. Since December, Walker Brothers agreed to amend the bid by lowering it to $285,000, and the council voted unanimously to accept the amended bid.

The town’s ball fields are ready just in time for baseball season. Baseball sign-ups begin in Baileyton on Jan. 14. The fields have been undergoing improvements throughout the fall to address drainage issues. Pro Rain Irrigation was hired to do the improvements, and after a final walk through, the council agreed the fields are in great shape.

Town Clerk Patricia Gilbert said, “We went to check the fields during all the recent rain and the fields were draining. We walked and it didn’t even leave prints. They did a fantastic job.”

Pro Rain Irrigation recommended that the Town maintain the field with a bunker-rake. The council also discussed reaching out to Cullman’s Heritage Park for guidance on maintaining the fields. Approval was given for Gilbert to check prices for a bunker rake to drag the fields.

Baileyton will see work begin on installing poles and solar-powered lights for the town’s walking trail. After testing lights, the council were pleased with the solar lights. The plan is to install four poles and lights at a time and adjust the lights as needed. The Town was able to purchase the lights with grant money received from the Cullman County Community Development Commission.

The Town will begin selling an estimated $6,000 worth of equipment left in the basement of Baileyton Town Hall by the previous renter. MultiLine Cable Co. left the equipment after it allegedly left without paying money owed to the Town. Baileyton won a judgement allowing it to sell the abandoned cable equipment. A complete list of the available equipment can be obtained at Baileyton Town Hall.
