MILLPORT – The Meek Tigers (Class 1A, Region 6) made the trip to Millport to take on the Stallions of South Lamar High School (Class 1A, Region 6) in what turned out to be a lopsided affair in the opening of region play. The Tigers never gave up in the 45-0 shutout; it was just one of those nights.

The Tigers went three-and-out to start the game, then the Stallions hooked up on a 52-yard touchdown pass and catch to take a 7-0 lead with 10:26 left in the first quarter. The next possession wasn’t any better as the Tigers fumbled the ball away to the Stallions; several plays later a 29-yard touchdown put the Stallions up 14-0 with 6:23 to go in the first.

Meek drove down the field looking to cut the lead in half, but once the Tigers got in the red zone the turnover bug bit again, giving the ball back to the Stallions, but this time the Tiger defense forced a punt. The Tiger offense just couldn’t get going, stalling on fourth down. Two plays later the Stallions connected on a 62-yard pass to extend their lead to 20-0 with 5:54 remaining until halftime. A Tiger punt gave the Stallions one more shot to score before halftime, and with 42 seconds left before the break, a 38-yard TD pass put South Lamar up 26-0.

Coming out of the locker room the Stallions received the ball, wasting very little time before a 60-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the second half made the score 32-0. On the very next possession, the Stallions intercepted a Tiger pass, setting their offense up in good field position to march right down the field and cap off the effort with a 17-yard touchdown pass and a 39-0 advantage with 6:45 left in the third quarter.

A repeat interception set the Stallions up once again, and with 4:08 remaining in the third quarter a 1-yard touchdown run gave the South Lamar a 45-0 lead.

And that’s where the score stayed, with backups getting some playing time to end the game.

The Tigers will be back at it next week when they host Hubbertville (Class 1A, Region 6).
