CULLMAN – A quick response from Cullman Fire Rescue contained a fire on top of Peoples Bank Monday night.

According to CFR Chief Brian Bradberry, "We got the call at about 8:59 p.m. Engine 18, Ladder 1 were the first to respond."

Smoke could be seen billowing out of the top of the bank from the street level, but the firefighters scaled the ladder and found an air conditioning unit on the roof on fire.

"Our guys found an AC unit on fire, and they extinguished it," said Bradberry. "We've been looking for hot spots, but so far we haven't found any. We believe we have the fire contained."

The bank is located on Cherokee Avenue, across the street from Wal-Mart.

Officers from the Cullman Police Department and personnel from Cullman EMS were also on the scene.

Bradberry said that when CFR arrived, anyone who had been in the building had exited. There were no injuries.
