CULLMAN – Both the Bearcat girls’ and boys’ varsity squads hosted the Brewer Patriots Monday night for the first sectional matchup of the season and the Lady Bearcats set the tone early with a 10-0 thrashing of the Lady Patriots.

Abby Branham put on a show, scoring eight goals in the blowout. Ninfa Moreno and Mimi Lunsford also found the back of the net and combined for seven assists as the Lady Bearcats ended the game just a few minutes into the second half.

Next up were the boys, and they got out to an early 1-0 lead when Isaac Rodriguez scored on a crosser from Juan Sheffield. The ‘Cats were able to maintain possession for a lot of the first half but were unable to score again and went into halftime still up 1-0. At the 22-minute mark of the second half, Sheffield scored on an assist from Rodriguez to put the ‘Cats up 2-0. Cullman was a little more susceptible on the defensive end in the second half, but Jaron Potter held up in the net, collecting three saves in the 2-0 victory.

The home win puts the ‘Cats at 4-1-0 so far in 2018 and they’ll look to keep the win streak going when they travel to take on the Pelham Panthers Tuesday night. Another blowout victory for the Lady Bearcats brings them to 5-1-1 this season and they will look to keep improving when they host Athens Tuesday night.
