CULLMAN COUNTY – With the regular season winding down, the 2017 play-off picture is starting to take shape. With a trio of local teams already in and more looking to earn their spots, the next two weeks are going to be full of adulation for some and letdowns for others.

1A

Addison (7-2, 5-1 1A Region 7)

The Addison Bulldogs were the first local team to earn their place in the 2017 AHSAA playoffs. They did this by rolling through their competition on their way to a 5-1 record in the region, their only regional loss coming at the hands of the Lynn Bears who hold the top spot in the region. Addison will go into the playoffs as the number two seed. Addison has bye week, but will take on Winston County at home on Nov. 3.

Meek (6-3, 2-3 1A Region 7)

Meek controls its own destiny in Region 7. The Tigers come into week 10 with a regional record of 2-3, the same as their opponent this week, the Sumiton Christian Eagles. it will be a big game for sure, with the winner earning a post-season berth and the loser left out in the cold.

2A

Cold Springs (1-8, 0-6 2A Region 7)

They fought all season, but the Cold Springs Eagles fell short and will miss the 2017 playoffs. In week 10 the Eagles took on the Cleveland High School Panthers in a Thursday night game. The Panthers won 33-0.

3A

Holly Pond (5-3, 2-3 3A Region 6)

Holly Pond has two ways into the AHSAA playoffs. One is to take care of business against the Vinemont Eagles Friday night. The other is to scoreboard watch and hope for a Susan Moore loss to J.B. Pennington.

Vinemont (2-6, 1-4 3A Region 6)

Vinemont will not see post-season action this year. However, the Eagles can still make the road quite difficult for the Holly Pond Broncos if they hand them their fourth regional loss this Friday at Vinemont.

Hanceville (1-8, 0-6 3A Region 6)

It has been a tough year for the Hanceville Bulldogs, as they will end the season without a win in their region, but there is no quit in these Dawgs. They will look to end their season strong with a win versus Good Hope Nov. 3.

4A

Good Hope (3-5, 1-4 4A Region 6)

Good Hope was unable to secure a playoff berth in 2017, but head coach Alan Scott will have his Raiders ready to finish the season strong as they head to Dora this week. The Raiders end their season with the Hanceville Bulldogs in a county rivalry game Nov. 3.

5A

West Point (5-3, 3-2 Region 6)

The West Point Warriors are in the 2017 AHSAA playoffs with a region record of 3-2. They will look to better their position this week with a win over Curry, looking to earn the right to host a first-round play-off game.

Fairview (2-5, 0-5 5A Region 6)

Fairview will not be making a post-season appearance this year, but the Aggies will be looking to pick up their first region win of the season this week when they travel to Springville. The Aggies will end the season with the cross-creek rivalry against Holly Pond Nov. 3.

6A

Cullman (5-3,3-2 6A Region 7)

Cullman has secured a spot in the 6A state playoffs. In what has turned out to be a very emotional season for the Bearcats, they would love nothing more than to make a deep play-off run and have a chance to bring the blue map home to Cullman and legendary Cullman coach, Mark Britton. The Bearcats have another regional matchup this week, when they play Brewer at home.
