VINEMONT – The Vinemont Town Council gathered Tuesday evening for its regular monthly meeting, where a handful of guests attended to make requests for their community.

The first request came from Candice Parris, an occupational therapist for Alabama HomeCare, who wanted to discuss the addition of a senior center in Vinemont. Parris expressed to the council her desire for a place within her community for seniors to socialize with one another and the rest of the town.

She added that she would love for the schools to be involved and have kids come and spend time with the seniors. Parris said she is excited to volunteer her time in this endeavor and mentioned using the Vinemont Scout House for as long as it would take to get a grant and build a new building for the senior center. The council, led by Mayor Radginal Dodson, agreed to give the request serious consideration.

Another request was to look into opportunities to bring new businesses into Vinemont, particularly an urgent care facility. The urgent care facility has been a point of contention at past council meetings, and after hearing further arguments, the council agreed to set aside time to look into that project and called for a motion to check into the legalities of selling property necessary to build the facility.

In new business, two resolutions were passed by the council. The first was to accept a trade for a 1990 model dump truck from Garden City and the second was to approve a new handbook for incoming city employee regulations that includes new cell phone, social media and other modern updates.

Vinemont will hold its next council meeting on Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. at Vinemont Town Hall. The public is encouraged to attend. If you are unable to attend, but would like the council to hear your concerns, the town clerk can be reached at 256-737-5411 from 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-noon on Fridays.
