GOOD HOPE – The Good Hope Raiders and the Fayette County Tigers both entered week three with a 2-0 start to the season, but the Raiders dropped the game to the Tigers at home 35-22.

The momentum of the game shifted early and often as the Raiders fumbled the opening kickoff but got the ball back two plays later when junior linebacker and running back Matt Dixon came up with an interception near midfield.

The Raiders took advantage of the turnover with a 19-yard touchdown toss from junior wide receiver Preston Bagwell to senior running back Matt Hancock on a reverse pass play.

The Raider defense forced a turnover on downs during Fayette County's second possession and quickly turned it into six more points on a 17-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Bailey Quick to a wide-open Bagwell. The pass gave Good Hope an early 12-0 lead.

The Raiders’ defense allowed just seven points and 106 yards of offense in the first half and carried a 12-7 lead into the locker room at halftime but could not corral the Tigers' passing game in the second half.

Fayette County quarterback Chance Stevenson led the Tiger offense to three touchdowns on their first three possessions of the second half, one of which ended in a 65-yard touchdown pass to Tre'darion Walker. Stevenson finished the game 15-of-24 for 243 yards with a touchdown and an interception. His favorite target of the night, Walker, finished with eight catches, 164 yards and a touchdown, nearly all of which came in the second half.

The Raiders’ defense was able to capture a little momentum with a safety at the start of the fourth quarter and the Good Hope offense moved the ball in the second half but was unable to finish their drives with points due to three late turnovers, all of which occurred inside the red zone.

The Tigers put the game out of reach on a 42-yard touchdown pass with less than four minutes left to play to go up 35-14.

Dixon got the Raiders on the board one last time on an 11-yard touchdown with just less than a minute in the game to cap off an impressive individual performance. In addition to his early interception on defense, Dixon finished with 193 total yards and two touchdowns.

The Good Hope Raiders drop to 2-1 now in 2017 and look to stay above .500 next week as they hit the road to face the Cordova Blue Devils.
