FAIRVIEW – The Fairview Aggies kicked off region play with a home game against the Corner Yellow Jackets.

It was an electric night at Dafford Smith Stadium. The Aggies received the opening kickoff and they set up shop at the 25-yard line. Fairview running backs Ethan Satterfield and Grant Howard racked up a total of 11 yards rushing on the opening drive. Dayne Black then threw a bullet pass to Scoot Bennett, who fumbled the ball allowing offensive tackle, Dylan Garner, for Fairview to recover the ball and keep the drive alive.

After a three-and-out, the Yellow Jackets were in business. After a barrage of drives stopped by both defenses, Dan Knowlton found Caleb Brasfield for a 32-yard gain through the air. It looked like the Yellow Jackets were on to something. The Aggie defense prevailed, however, to force Corner to punt.

The Aggies had no answer for the Corner defense as the first quarter of play ended in a 0-0 tie.

Early in the second quarter the Aggies had something cooking as Black found Ethan Holland for an 18-yard gain and both Satterfield and Howard pushed their way to a combined 32 yards on the drive. The drive would be for not, however, as the Aggies were forced to punt the football for the fifth time in the game.

Corner had finally had enough of the Fairview defense as Yellow Jacket running back, Jared Millwood, ran for a total of 43 yards before finding the end zone on a 25-yard touchdown run with 2:38 left to play in the half, to give him 58 yards on the drive. Fairview responded well to Corner though, as Black found Bennett on a 48-yard reception and then again the very next play for a 21-yard gain only to have him fumble on the 2-yard line for Corner to take possession.

The score at the half was Corner-7 and Fairview-0.

The Yellow Jackets received to start the third. Corner racked up 78 yards on the drive only to be stopped on fourth down in the red zone, in Aggie territory. On the next drive for Faiview they marched 83 yards and scored on a Holland 9-yard touchdown reception with 2:04 left in the quarter.

The Aggie crowd was elated. They were elated until Corner’s Millwood ran 73 yards down field, on the next drive for Corner, and scored a touchdown with 1:55 left in the third. The Aggies responded well, going 72 yards, with Howard responsible for 36 of them, only to have Howard fumble and Corner take over.

After a Corner three-and-out, the Aggies took the ball back. They went 41 yards before Black plunged in for a 2-yard touchdown run with 4:47 remaining in the game. The game was tied at 14.

Knowlton then found Brasfield for a 76-yard touchdown reception to put a dagger in the Aggie comeback. Fairview put up a great fight but came up short.

Millwood of Corner carried the ball for an impressive 229 rushing yards in the Yellow Jacket victory. Howard put up 64 rushing yards for Fairview while Bennett racked up 146 receiving yards. Satterfield and Holland also had good numbers in the loss.

Fairview will have a bye week next week and the Corner Yellow Jackets will play host to Mortimer Jordan to continue region play.
