HOLLY POND – After last week's loss to Locust Fork, Holly Pond played the Hanceville Bulldogs tonight with the hope of turning a 4-2 season into a 5-2 season. Luck was on the Broncos' side as they won the game 40-16.

The Broncos started the game with an onside kick, which they quickly recovered. They were also quick to score, getting first down after first down and ultimately getting a touchdown from Caleb Jones. With no extra points, the game started with a score of 6-0. The rest of the quarter was evenly matched. Both teams had multiple incomplete passes and struggled for first downs at times, preventing any further scoring until the second quarter.

Like the first quarter, Holly Pond scored early with another Jones touchdown and this time a 2-point conversion, putting the score at 14-0. The Broncos were relentless in their efforts to prevent the Bulldogs from scoring, and a recovered fumble led to a third TD by Jones. The game intensified as penalties were called against both teams, but the Broncos still managed to run out the clock.

After halftime, Holly Pond continued their trend of scoring by returning Hanceville's kickoff for a TD. The Bulldogs ran for a first down after the Broncos' kickoff, but they were unable to get another one and punted. The Broncos ran for a TD by Trey Hill, and Savannah Fortner kicked the extra point.

Hanceville struggled after Holly Pond's kickoff, having to punt after three incomplete passes and two penalties left them unable to gain more than one first down. Holly Pond also had difficulties after receiving the ball -a penalty, two incomplete passes and a missed field goal- but they overcame their slump when Tyler Boatwright recovered a Bulldog fumble and the Broncos scored again. An extra point kicked by Todd Schwabb left the score at 40-0. Hanceville's B.J. Smalls ran for more first downs, but ultimately the Broncos ran out the clock once more.

The Bulldogs made it onto the scoreboard in the final quarter. Smalls and R.J. Evans worked together to run for first downs and two touchdowns, and good 2-point conversions for both touchdowns put the score at 40-16, where it stayed for the rest of the game.

The Broncos celebrated their fifth win of the season.

Next week Holly Pond travels to Fultondale for a Thursday night game.
