WEST POINT – Fairview returned to the scene of last week’s upset by West Point tonight, temporarily playing their home games at West Point Stadium. But this time, homecoming night, the Aggies came up with the win. They routed the Curry Yellow Jackets, 42-14.

Fairview came into the game 2-4 and 0-3 in regional play with high hopes for a win.

The first quarter showed how most of the game would play out as the Aggies held Curry on their first possession and then scored on their own drive six minutes into the quarter. Aggies quarterback Ragan Ashley threw a 20-yard TD pass to Garrett Dunn after great blocking allowed Dunn to trot into the end zone.

As Aggie Jeremy Cloud was helped off the field following a brutal hit at kickoff, Curry was able to capitalize on a 63-yard rush putting them at the Aggie 2-yard line and followed it with a touchdown.

With Fairview back on the drive, a compilation of throws by Ashley and rushes by Logan Brooks, led to Brooks scoring on a 7-yard run up the middle.

Now 14-8 the second quarter began with a turnover on downs for the Yellow Jackets, and another chance for Ashley to throw the ball to a wide open Sambo Woods for a gain of 42 yards. The Aggies ended the drive with another rushing touchdown from Brooks, 21-8.

Turnovers on downs for both teams then gave Fairview the ball at the end of the second quarter with less than a minute and no time for procrastination as Ashley threw to Ethan Holland for a 19-yard touchdown right before halftime. Ashley threw for two touchdowns in the first half, with the other two touchdowns coming from Brooks.

The second half began with a Fairview first down at their own 37-yard line. The result once again was a TD, this one a 27-yard touchdown pass to Scoot Bennett, and a score 35-8 in favor of the Aggies.

The Aggies weren't done there though as the next drive by Curry was held back and put up a 4th down which made the Yellow Jackets punt away. This time Bennett, playing punt returner, escaped multiple tackles and put the Aggies into their opponent's territory for the seventh time of the night. As the clock reached 4:44 Ashley launched another pass to Woods for a touchdown, and six more points plus an extra point added to the Aggies lead, 42-8, ending the third quarter with 35 unanswered points for Fairview.

The start of the fourth quarter gave the Yellow Jackets good field position and finally a score up on the board for the first time in the second half, and the game reached the final score of 42-14. Ashley was up for another try throwing on a second-down attempt, but the ball was intercepted as the tired quarterback was finished for the night.

All in all, the Aggies managed to gain 357 total yards on the night. With 20 carries from Brooks, 98 of those yards were from rushing, plus 31 receiving yards. Ashley finished the night 14 of 20 passing with one interception and 229 passing yards. He threw four touchdowns to four different receivers.

The Aggies head to Hayden next week to play the Wildcats.
