CULLMAN – The 2016 Cullman County Fair Queen Pageant was ablaze with loveliness and talent. The eight contestants presented their very best when they walked onto that stage Tuesday night. They each gave a heartfelt description of something they are passionate about and then performed either a song or dance.

The first contestant, Taylor Bray from Vinemont High School, performed a dance to “Hallelujah” in memory of Whitney Cotton. Bray talked about the importance of wearing a seatbelt and how it saves lives.

Rheagan Kaufman, from Holly Pond High School, sang “Beautiful, Beautiful” by Francesca Battistelli.

From Good Hope High School, Maggie Stewart danced a jig in a 50’s style costume. Stewart was named Cullman County Fair Queen second alternate.

Madison Roberts, from West Point High School, sang “It’s a Hard Knock Life” from the musical “Annie.” Roberts performed the song dressed as an orphan character from the show.

Cullman’s Elisabeth Nance crooned “At Last” by Etta James. She wore a long sparkling black dress that blended in with the shiny gold back drop.

The sixth contestant, and winner of the Cullman County Fair Queen Pageant, was Mikah Hudson. Hudson, from Hanceville High School, performed a Johnny Cash classic, “Folsom Prison Blues,” while also playing the guitar. In her opening speech, she talked about the tragedies of drug addiction and how they have affected her personally. She says her mother was a drug addict but has been sober for four years.

Rebecca Overton, from Fairview High, was named Miss Congeniality. Overton performed a beautiful dance done with sign language.

Cold Springs’ Regan Garmon won first alternate and the talent scholarship. She sang a gorgeous version of “Vienna” by Linde Eder while wearing a stunning red dress.

The Wallace State Singers entertained the audience with their phenomenal talent and 2015 Cullman County Fair Queen Laura Ellard sang “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles while the judges made their decision.

The night ended with Ellard crowning Hudson, with all the grace of her previous reign, while the 2016 queen just smiled in disbelief with tears flowing.
