I would like to see some businesses come into the community so more people can have a local job.”
Bill McElroy

BAILEYTON – Baileyton’s Bill McElroy has announced he will seek the position of mayor of Baileyton in the upcoming municipal election. McElroy served on the Baileyton Town Council from 2008-2012. He ran for mayor in 2012 but lost the election to current mayor, Johnny Dyar.

“I am running again this time because people want a change,” said McElroy. “I would like to see some businesses come into the community so more people can have a local job. I am retired now, so I have plenty of time to spend doing the work of mayor.”

McElroy has lived in Baileyton for more than 60 years and is well-known in the community. He is married and has two grown children and several grandchildren. He is a disabled veteran and once owned McElroy Towing in Baileyton.

While serving on the council, McElroy was responsible for getting the lights installed in the Parkside School parking lot. He also made efforts to attract fast food restaurants to Baileyton, but without a sewer system, they all declined.

The mayoral race will be the only one on the ticket for the Aug. 23 municipal election in Baileyton.
