COLONY – The Town of Colony will see plenty of changes in its local government this month, but there will be no election.

There are three candidates for the five positions on the town council, all of whom are running for different positions and are running unopposed. As for mayor, that race is unopposed as well, but the slot will be filled by a former town councilman.

Colony Mayor Vernon Fields was expected to run for his position once more, but did not file his paperwork by the cut-off date. Thus, Donnis Leeth, who served on Colony’s Town Council from 2008-2012, is unopposed as the candidate for mayor.

The rest of the town’s leadership will be as follows:

  • Council Place #1 (Finance) will be Margaret Dimbo, who is moving from her current position as Council Place #2 (Streets and Drainage).
  • Council Place #4 (Parks and Recreation/Library) will be Curtis Johnson.
  • Council Place #5 (Sanitation and Utilities) will be Myra Twitty.

No one has qualified for Council Place #2 (Streets and Drainage) or Council Place #3 (Police and Fire). The council will appoint those positions at their next meeting, Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 6 p.m. at Colony Town Hall.
