Memorial Services for Jim Stanton will be Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Gadsden, AL. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the church.

Jim went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, April 4. He was born February 25, 1938 in Linden, AL, to Jamie and Roxie Bennett Stanton. Jimmie was raised in Greensboro, AL, where at a young age began leading music at Greensboro Baptist Church. After a few years of teaching school elsewhere, he returned home to teach at Greensboro Public School and lead music full time.

Jim soon went to work for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions in Montgomery and later the Southern Baptist Convention Sunday School Board in Nashville. In 1980, he took his family to Gadsden where he became Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Gadsden. He later added Minister of Senior Adults to his title. He retired in 2001 but as is true of the ministry you never truly retire. His love for the Lord, his family, and all God’s people kept him ministering until the good Lord called him Home.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Roxianne Watkins.

He leaves behind his wife of 49 years Lou Wilson Stanton, two sons; Seth (Brandi) Stanton and Jared (Amanda) Stanton, 4 grandchildren; Meredith Hicks, Caleb Stanton, Nora Jayne Stanton, and Bennett Stanton, and a Swedish daughter (exchange student); Veronica Arnflykt.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Watkins Bennett Scholarship Fund at Greensboro Baptist Church or the Building Fund of First Baptist Church Gadsden.
