CULLMAN — On Wednesday, November 11, Walmart will open its second Cullman location.
According to the new store's manager, Joey Childress, the grand opening ceremony of Walmart Supercenter #7280 will begin at 7:30 a.m. and sales will begin at 8 a.m.
“We just cannot wait to start serving the community,” Childress said.
Celebrating Veterans
During the ceremony, Cullman Mayor Max A. Townson will read a Veterans Day Poem and the store's management teams will introduce themselves.
“There will be a projector on a loop showing photos of veterans who work in the store, or of loved ones that work in the store,” Childress said.
Additionally, as a special treat for first-day shoppers, the store will be filled with a variety of vendors.
Looking Different Inside and Out
The current south-side and new north-side Walmarts are similar in many ways, but the new store does boast a few significant changes.
“The grocery department will be on the right-hand side when you walk in, as opposed to the other one where the groceries are on the left,” Childress explained.
He went on to say that the new Walmart has its Pick-Up-Today department in the front of the store rather than the back.
“This is to make it easier on shoppers and enhance customer service,” he stated.
According to Childress, the new location features a drive-through pharmacy, yet is about 20,000 feet smaller than the existing Walmart.

Childress, from Oneonta, was chosen to be the new location's Head Store Manager in July and says there have been no complications since he began overseeing the project's completion and opening preparation.
The new store does not have a Murphy USA service station but does feature a full-service automotive department like its predecessor, including oil change and tire service.
