Inmate Worker Walks Away from Detention Center, Girlfriend Believed to Have Assisted

CULLMAN – On Friday, May 22nd, 2015, at approximately 7:53 p.m., an inmate worker walked away from the Cullman County Detention Center while cleaning the lobby area of the detention center.

The inmate is identified as Joshua James Lay, 37 years old, of Vinemont, Ala. Through video surveillance it is believed his girlfriend Nona Faye Baker assisted Inmate Lay by picking him up and leaving the detention center.

Ms. Baker is identified as a 33 year old, white female, of Clay County.

Immediately after the walkway was discovered the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) issued a statewide “Be on the Look Out” (BOLO) for Inmate Lay.

CCSO is currently working with other law enforcement agencies to apprehend Inmate Lay.

Inmate Lay was currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center for Probation Violation and Receiving Stolen Property 3rd.
