HANCEVILLE – The Hanceville Bulldogs overcame the Holly Pond Broncos not only to make the win a homecoming victory but an emotional one as well when Shawn Anderton, who had been in a severe accident causing his body to be paralyzed, walked across the field (with the aid of his parents) as a captain to welcome the Broncos onto his school’s home field. Hanceville defeated Holly Pond with a final score of 27-7 with Anderton on the sidelines to cheer them on the entirety of the game.

The Bulldogs were off to a remarkable start, gaining their first touchdown 45 seconds into the beginning of the game and making an interception by Jose Orozco on Holly Pond’s first offensive drive of the night.

Orozco was, later on, able to rush in another touchdown for his team after two touchdowns were completed by quarterback Branen Hurst and wide receiver Dante Reese. The two-point conversion attempt on Hursts’s touchdown was no good, the score 27-0.

Holly Pond’s offense was able to match Hanceville’s near the end of the fourth quarter when they were able to make the final touchdown of the game but received a penalty on the field goal attempt, pushing them back five yards to kick the extra point.

After a well-played game for both teams, the Bulldogs came out emotionally victorious for both their school and fellow teammate, Shawn, as well.
