Funeral Service for Mattie Jewel Sams, age 84 of Cullman, will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with Roger McManus officiating; burial at Cullman City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Ms. Sams passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at her residence. She was born Sunday, June 14, 1942, to Jim Baker and Verner Estelle Baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a host of brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her sons, Wayne (Doris) Downs and Ricky (Anita) Downs; grandchildren, Wendy (Cordell) Carithers, Franchesca (Darrek) Stanley, Steven Morales, Sharron (Toney) Steele; great grandchildren, Wesley (Savanah) Cruce, Naomi Carithers, Braylin Stanley, Hannah Brown, Shyanne (Brandon) Jones, great great grandchildren, Jaxon, Corey and Wesley, Jr. Cruce, Lillian Kisscok, Asteria Mebus; sisters, Brenda Hunt and Rhonda Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
