Manuel Jesus’ Cerro, born June 11, 1944, in Lima, Peru, passed away on June 19, 2026. He was a devoted poultry farmer whose passion for birds, especially pigeons and doves, was well known to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Manuel’s love for animals extended beyond his feathered friends; he treasured his dogs, who were often found resting on his lap or faithfully by his side.
Manuel was a man of simple joys and enduring commitments. He delighted in fishing, enjoyed the challenge and entertainment of games on his phone, and above all, cherished his family. He attended Logan Methodist Church.
Manuel is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Auston Cerro; his daughter, Deborah Thornton; his step-sons, Greg Thrasher and Lance Thrasher (Susan); and his step-daughters, Kathy Burks (Greg) and Rebecca Kimbrough (Greg). He also leaves behind his cherished sister, Sylvia Cerro; grandchildren Zakary and Lacey Thornton; and a host of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom remember him with love and deep respect. The family is joined by many friends.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Cerro and Graciela Freyre Cerro.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Manuel’s life will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Cullman Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 461 US-278, Cullman, Alabama. Interment will be in Crossroads Cemetery, Bro. Steve Bryan officiating. Family, friends, and those whose lives were touched by Manuel are invited to attend and pay their respects. His presence will be deeply missed but forever treasured.
