BERLIN, Ala. – The Berlin Town Council at its meeting on Monday, Feb. 16, discussed bids, the Berlin Farmers Market and more.

The meeting began with council members discussing bids for mowing, bushhogging and maintenance of Town property. There were three bidders and members motioned to award Laney Services for mowing, K&M Field Services LLC for cleaning and Branch Construction for bushhogging. All three were approved.

Mayor Patrick Bates moved on to public comments. Republican candidate for Cullman County Sheriff Tim Creel, along with his wife, Amanda, were in attendance. Creel stood and thanked the council for having him.

    “I know Berlin,” he started.

Creel went on to say that he has nine grandchildren and eight of them live in the county. He advised that he wants to be more thorough in his term.

On the topic of terms, he said, “I am a firm believer in term limits.”

He expressed the need for a drug unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) taskforce and more.

Following public comments, Bates told the council they need to revisit the Rogers Group proposal for the Berlin Farmers Market, saying “We still have it and it is still valid. They will pave and stripe that parking lot for $92,924.”

Councilman Keith Hardman asked about flume being constructed for better drainage in addition to the asphalt. “I’ve already talked to the engineer about that months ago and, when this auction came up, he said the flume could be a significant fraction of this.”

Councilman Don Bates motioned to approve the proposal for Rogers Group and Councilman Don Gunter seconded.

The mayor advised that Rogers Group stated completion of the parking lot would take 45 calendar days. Since the work would begin the first week of March, there were some concerns with time considering the Berlin Farmers Market will open in mid-April.

The council said the Berlin Farmers Market 2026 Growers Meeting will take place on Friday, March 20, at Berlin Town Hall at 1 p.m.
