CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Senior Center is searching for local volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors in Cullman.

Cullman County Commission on Aging (COA) Director Stephanie Lawson said they serve hot meals daily, Monday- Friday, from 10 a.m.-noon.

“Delivering these meals is so much more than just a hot nutritious meal,” she said. “For many homebound individuals, our volunteers are the only connection they have. Maybe you can’t commit to helping every day, but one day a week also makes a difference. The need is growing and every volunteer can be a part of making an impact in our community.”

Lawson said they cannot serve the homebound without the help of volunteers willing to give their time.

“Individuals, church groups, business, let’s talk,” Lawson said. “We have several routes open. We have other centers throughout the county who are always in need of volunteers as well.”

To be a driver you must have your own transportation, and mileage reimbursement is optional.

The Cullman Senior Center is located at 1539 Sportsman Lake Road NW in Cullman. For more information, call 256-734-0145.

According to the COA’s website:

“Hot meals are served daily, Monday through Friday (except holidays), at the seven Commission on Aging full-time senior centers. This includes Colony, Crane Hill, Cullman, Fairview, Hanceville, Holly Pond, and West Point. There is no charge for the meal, however a donation is appreciated and goes back into the meals program.

“Hot meals are delivered to the homes of homebound senior citizens in the service area of the seven senior centers listed above for those that meet guideline requirements. You must be 60 years of age or older to qualify for homebound meals.

“Meals for seniors are provided with funds from Alabama Department of Senior Services and the Cullman County Commission, donations from businesses, churches and individuals, NARCOG, and United Way of Cullman. You must be 60 years of age or older to attend full time centers or to qualify for homebound meals. For more information contact: Laurie Knight at (256) 734-1241, or lknight@co.cullman.al.us”
