CULLMAN, Ala. – A special event was held at Temple Baptist Church in Cullman on Wednesday, Nov. 12: the Super Citizen Culmination Ceremony. Three members of the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office were among the honorees.
Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry said fifth graders from across Cullman County participated in the Liberty Learning Foundation’s Super Citizen Program.
“This wonderful program teaches students about their roles and responsibilities as citizens of the United States — instilling character, community service and civic awareness,” he said. “Each participating school selects a ‘Torch Hero’ to receive the Super Citizen Award, recognizing individuals who make a positive impact in their community.”
CCSO Deputy Blake Golden, Sgt. Jeff Rainwater and Lt. Chad Whaley were chosen by students from Fairview, Harmony and Hanceville as their Torch Heroes.
Said Gentry, “A heartfelt thank you to all the students, teachers and administrators for recognizing these deputies and for promoting the values of citizenship and service within our schools.”
According to the Liberty Learning Foundation website, “Liberty Learning Foundation is a non-profit organization facilitating active civics and character programs in K-12 classrooms and orchestrating immersive events that empower schools, parents, local leaders, and businesses to take ownership of the future of the community and country.”
About its Super Citizen Program for grades 3-5, it says, “The Super Citizen Program makes learning history, civics, character, financial literacy and career readiness exciting. Our immersive learning experiences teach students to become responsible, outstanding citizens.”
