CLANTON, Ala. – Very cold air entered the state from the north Sunday morning with dropping temperatures during the afternoon. A Freeze Warning has been issued for the northern half of Alabama from late evening into Monday morning. There could even be a couple of snow flurries in the far north tonight.
Remember to protect people, pipes, pets and sensitive vegetation.
A cold and blustery day will occur on Monday with high temperatures struggling to get out of the 30s in northern Alabama to middle 50s near the coast. Many locations will likely set records for the lowest maximum temperature on Monday.
Here are a few records for the lowest maximum temperatures on Monday:
- Huntsville – 43 in 1950
- Birmingham – 46 in 1950
- Montgomery – 48 in 1892

In addition, widespread northwest wind gusts will range from 20-30 mph late tonight through Monday afternoon. Remember to dress warmly if heading outdoors. Combined with low humidity, there is also an increased fire danger threat.
Freeze Warnings will be issued statewide from Monday evening into Tuesday morning with low temperatures ranging from the upper teens north to lower 30s along the coast. Once again, many low-temperature records will be broken.
