LYNN, Ala. – Cold Springs traveled to Lynn for a non-region matchup with the Bears Friday night and in a season where the Eagles offense has owned the headlines so far, it was the Cold Springs defense that led the way in this one. The Eagles led 12-0 at halftime and kept Lynn at a safe distance in the second half, pulling away to earn a 36-12 win.
After a slow start in the opening period, quarterback Ayden Black ran one into the end zone to put Cold Springs in front 6-0 with 2:15 to play in the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter, the Eagles added to their lead when Black connected with Breydon Hallmon through the air for a touchdown to make it a 12-0 game. Cold Springs had an opportunity to tack on three more points with a field goal just before halftime, but the attempt was no good and the Eagles went into the locker room with a 12-0 lead at the break.
A rushing touchdown by Black extended Cold Springs’ lead to 20-0 early in the third quarter and on the next Lynn possession, Brandon Chasteen intercepted a pass to give the ball to the offense. However, the Eagles were unable to take advantage of the turnover, and the Bears found the end zone later in the period to trim the lead to 20-6. The ensuing extra point attempt was blocked by Hallmon to maintain a 14-point lead for the Eagles.
Tycen Kilgo punched one into the end zone to make it a 28-6 game early in the fourth quarter and he ran in a second touchdown later midway through the period to stretch the lead to 36-6. Lynn was able to find the end zone with four minutes on the clock to cut it to 36-12 but it was too little, too late and Cold Springs returned home with a 36-12 win over the Bears.
Cold Springs (5-1) will be back home next week for a region game against West End.
