
CULLMAN, Ala. — The Cullman High School swim team recently turned in a dominant performance at the 2025 Bearcat Sprint Invitational on Thursday, September 11, winning both the boys’ and girls’ divisions and capturing the overall team title.
Facing off against strong competition from Westminster Christian Academy and Athens Swim Team, Cullman swimmers delivered from the opening relays to the final freestyle sprints, compiling a meet-high 238 points to clinch the combined team championship.
The Cullman girls’ team scored 123 points, while the boys added 115, securing first place in both divisions.
Early Relay Wins Set the Tone
Cullman started strong with back-to-back victories in the 200-yard medley relays. The girls’ A relay (Kyleigh Huffman, Edie Hudson, Mika Lackey, Preslie Basch) took first in 2:05.75. The boys’ A relay (Briar Lackey, Magnus Mann, Camp Smith, Mason Fuller) followed with a winning time of 1:53.13.
The momentum carried into the final events, where Cullman’s girls’ 200 free relay team (Lackey, Hudson, Basch, and Ellie Gleaton) clocked a winning time of 1:59.01. The boys’ relay capped the day with a second-place finish in 1:39.61.
Individual Standouts Lead the Charge
Cullman was powered by a strong core of swimmers who consistently finished at the top of their events:
- Mika Lackey claimed gold in the 100-yard individual medley (1:07.51), placed second in the 50 fly (30.59), and second in the 50 back (32.02).
- Edie Hudson took first in both the 50 free (29.00) and the 50 breast (34.93), and earned second place in the 100 IM (1:10.43).
- On the boys’ side, Camp Smith won the 50 fly, finished second in the 100 IM (1:01.17), and second in the 50 back (28.81).
- Magnus Mann brought home gold in the 50 breast (30.39) and bronze in the 100 IM (1:03.86).
- Mason Fuller secured second in the 50 free (25.48) and fourth-place finishes in the 50 fly and 50 breast.
- Dallas Hammons placed second in the 100 free (58.82) and third in the 200 free (2:10.56).
Team Effort Secures Title
Cullman’s depth proved to be a deciding factor, with valuable contributions from Abigail Wamsley, Preslie Basch, Ellie Gleaton, Ginny Voss, Briar Lackey, Tate Tysinger, and Griffin Cole. Even Cullman’s B relay squads turned in competitive times in exhibition heats, showing off the team’s bench strength.
