BLOUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Town of Blountsville will celebrate America’s 250th birthday with an afternoon and evening of family-friendly activities, contests, hometown pride and fireworks Friday, July 3, at Blountsville Town Park.

The celebration is part of America’s semiquincentennial, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Festivities will begin at 2:50 p.m. with reduced pool admission of $2.50 per person. The celebration will continue throughout the evening with activities for all ages before ending with a fireworks finale.

“Join us for a free, family-friendly community celebration as we honor America’s 250th birthday,” event organizers said. “Bring your family, friends, lawn chairs and patriotic spirit for an afternoon and evening packed with fun activities, friendly competition and hometown pride.”

The event will include a cannonball contest, watermelon eating contest, patriotic hairdo contest, classic car show and tractor show. Free popcorn will also be available.

Participants in contests must register on-site the day of the event and sign a waiver before participating. Space is limited, and participation numbers for contests may be capped.

Attendees are encouraged to bring coolers, chairs and picnic blankets. Alcohol will not be allowed.

The event is designed as a once-in-a-generation community celebration, giving residents and visitors a chance to gather for Independence Day weekend while recognizing the nation’s milestone anniversary.

“Come celebrate our nation’s history, our town’s heritage and create memories with family and friends at this special once-in-a-generation event,” organizers said.

The celebration will take place Friday, July 3, at Blountsville Town Park. Activities begin at 2:50 p.m. and will continue until the fireworks show.
