Heavy Rainfall And Possible Flooding Today

CLANTON – Monday, 700 am, June 8, 2026

A Flood Watch is in effect for areas near and north of I-20 through 8 pm.

Except for southeastern Alabama, many areas across the state received 1-3 inches of rain yesterday, with spotty amounts of 3-6 inches.

Unfortunately, it appears scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will redevelop this morning and continue into the evening hours, mainly across the northern half of the state.  Like yesterday, these will be heavy rain producers, with rainfall rates potentially over an inch per hour.  Some spots in the Flood Watch could receive an additional 4+ inches today.

For areas that flooded yesterday through early this morning, it will not take much additional rainfall for flooding to begin quickly.  In addition, a couple of storms could produce wind gusts of 30-50 mph, which could down trees due to moist soil conditions.

12 inches of water can float a car, and two feet of rushing water can carry away most large vehicles.  It is very difficult to tell the depth of the water on flooded roadways, and you shouldn’t attempt to drive through it.

TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN! Over half of flood fatalities occur in vehicles.  Don’t become a statistic!

The unsettled pattern will continue this week with isolated to scattered, mainly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms across the eastern half of Alabama on Tuesday, and statewide Wednesday through Sunday.
