Obituary: Irma Gene Panter

Irma Gene Panter passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, at Heritage Nursing Home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. 
 
Irma was born on October 3, 1928, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, to Claudia Herbert Johnson and Minnie Lee Hand Johnson. She grew up on her family’s farm, where she developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family and simple living. 
 
Throughout her life, Irma was known for her dedication and hard work. She was employed at several local businesses, including the Cullman Cigar Plant, Stiefelmeyer’s, and Watson’s Department Stores, where she built lasting relationships and was respected by coworkers and customers alike. 
 
Irma was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William Edward Johnson of Huntsville, Alabama; and her beloved husband, Edward Earl Panter. 
 
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Gail Holmes; her sister-in-law, Shelby (Gloyd) Harris; her nephew, William Scott (Laynie) Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. 
 
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Etha Baptist Cemetery. Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 
 
Irma will be remembered for her quiet strength, her devotion to her family, and the legacy of love she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
