CULLMAN, Ala – Cullman City Schools has been recognized as a “Rising Star” school system by the Alabama State Department of Education for its strong academic efforts and implementation of the state’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.

The vision of MTSS in Alabama is to ensure every student has access to the academic and behavioral supports they need to succeed in school and beyond, said a release from the school system. “Cullman City Schools’ recognition highlights the system’s commitment to meeting the needs of every learner through intentional, research-based practices.”

The release continued, “A key driver of this success has been the district’s adoption of a customized instructional rounds process. This approach focuses on individual, school-based improvement efforts with the ultimate goal of increasing rigor and high-quality learning experiences for all students. Grounded in research and collaboration, the instructional rounds model promotes continuous growth on each campus while empowering educators to refine their practices.”

“Our focus has been on building a system where continuous improvement is part of the culture in every school,” Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff said. “Instructional rounds allow us to take a deeper look at teaching and learning, ensuring that we are consistently increasing rigor and providing meaningful opportunities for every student.”

According to the system, the process is intentionally collaborative, bringing together administrators and teachers to reflect on classroom practices, share insights and implement strategies that lead to improved student outcomes.

“This recognition speaks to the openness and commitment of our educators,” Kallhoff added. “The willingness of our administrators and teachers to grow, reflect, and improve each day is the reason Cullman City Schools continues to be one of the top-performing systems in Alabama.”
