Mrs. Hanvey passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 19,1940, to Ernest Bates and R.V. Vincent Bates.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Paul Hanvey; brothers, William Pop Bates, Jack Bates; sisters, Barbara Humphrey, and Diane Bates Jullian; brother-in-law, Lamar Harbison.
Survivors include her son, Kelly (Kerry) Hanvey; daughter, Trena (Mike) Guthrie; grandchildren, Tara (TJ) Hamm, Josh (Maggi) Sellers, Brandon Guthrie & Keleigh Woods; great grandchildren, Ashlin, Ella, Rivers & Evelyn; a host of nieces, nephews, family & friends.
Gail was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and “Granny” to so many. She loved her flowers and trees. Her greatest joy though, was her family – her children, grandchildren and all the many people she gathered in with love over the years. If you spent much time around her at all, before long, you were calling her “Granny” too. She had a way of making children feel like they were her own.
