Looking for some unique ways to spend Valentine’s Day this year? Here are five date ideas for you and your partner that are low pressure and different from your typical date night dinner.

    $10 thrift store date challenge

Head to one of our local thrift stores, like The Foundry in Cullman or King’s Thrift in Hanceville, and give each other $10. Set a timer for 20 minutes and find the most ridiculous outfit you can piece together, something that reminds you of your partner, and one item you’d actually use or love at home.

    Sunset picnic with V-day treats

While the typical romantic dinner reservations are a classic, if you’re looking to skip the crowd and stressful reservations, pack some items like a thermos of coffee or hot chocolate, bakery treats from somewhere local and a comfy blanket and drive to a quiet park or even your own backyard and watch the sunset together. Weather permitting, have your picnic outside and enjoy the weather or sit in your car and listen to your favorite music.

    First date re-creation

For long-term couples, recreate your first date, but keep it simple. If you visit the same restaurant, order just an appetizer to share instead of a full meal. If your first date was a movie, re-watch it at home in cozy pajamas with your favorite snacks. Met at church or school? Take a walk there and reminisce. Take this time to re-live your first date and reminisce on all the meaningful moments that have made your relationship strong.

    Bookstore or library blind date

Visit Books-a-Million or the library and secretly pick out a book you think your partner would love, wrap it in brown paper or swap without revealing the title. Set a timer for 30 minutes and read together at a coffee shop or at home. It’s cozy, quiet and different from the typical dinner date.

    Dream board date night

Get crafty! Buy a cheap posterboard or use a stack of magazines you already have. Spend the evening cutting out travel destinations, home decor ideas, future goals and dreams, and create a shared “someday” vision board. It turns Valentine’s Day into a conversation about your future instead of just a one-night event.
